Serious Injury Crash in Richland Parish

An Arkansas man has been seriously injured in a one vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Richland Parish.

The crash occurred today at about 4:22 pm on I-20 at milepost 130. A 2000 Hyundai Sonata was traveling west on I-20 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road into the median. The driver then over-corrected and crossed back across the westbound travel lanes and ran off the road to the right. The car came to rest after hitting several trees. The driver was transported to a local hospital then transferred to the LSU-Shreveport Hospital with critical injuries.

The drivers identification is being withheld pending notification of his next-of-kin. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and alcohol use is suspected to be a factor.

As troopers were investigating this crash, a separate vehicle struck two LSP units parked at the scene. A 1997 Ford Explorer was traveling west on I-20 approaching the crash scene when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck two fully marked state police units. The state police units were parked on the shoulder of the road and had their emergency lights activated. Both lanes of I-20 were open when this second crash occurred.

Both LSP units were unoccupied at the time of the crash and sustained major damage as a result of the collision.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, identified as 42-year-old Kimberly Kerrigan from West Monroe, received minor injuries in the crash and did not require medical treatment at the scene. Kerrigan was issued a citation for Careless Operation.
