News Release January 1, 2010 Impairment Suspected in Deadly Crash
One man was killed and another was injured in an early morning Jackson Parish crash.
The crash occurred at about 3:05 am this morning. A 1987 Ford truck was traveling east on Short Straw Rd in Jackson Parish when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right side of the road. After leaving the road, the truck struck a tree and both occupants of the vehicle were ejected.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Dustin Burns from Eros, was transported to Northeast Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston with moderate injuries.
The passenger, identified as 24-year-old Dickey D. Gay from Eros, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson Parish Coroner's Office.
Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and alcohol is suspected to be a factor. Toxicology tests and charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
This is the first fatal crash investigated by Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers this year. Contact Information,
