| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release February 11, 2010 11:30 am Winter Weather Driving Update According to the latest information provided by the National Weather Service (Shreveport), the intensity of snowfall is expected to increase this afternoon into tonight. As temperatures drop below freezing after dark, we anticipate driving conditions will deteriorate rather quickly. The wet roadways may become icy during this time through mid-afternoon Friday, when temperatures are expected to rise above freezing and the ice will gradually melt. However, there is the possibility the precipitation may refreeze Friday evening. Additionally, during times of heavy snowfall, visibility may be reduced to less than a mile. Because of these factors, Louisiana State Police Troop F Commander, Captain Kevin Reeves, stated today, “We strongly encourage emergency travel only beginning late this afternoon through mid-afternoon Friday. Icy bridges and overpasses, even on primary roadways, will present especially hazardous driving conditions.” Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Transportation will closely monitor conditions and will take appropriate safety measures on negatively affected roadways. As conditions change, we remind motorists to wear seatbelts correctly/use appropriate child restraints, adjust their speed, make sure tires are properly inflated, and never travel faster than conditions allow. Do not drive using the cruise control in icy conditions. Do allow ample time to reach your destination, allow extra space between vehicles, and keep vehicle headlights on. For current road conditions or road closure information, the public may dial “511” or visit www.511LA.org online. To report hazardous conditions or traffic crashes, please notify the local troop by calling *577 (*LSP) via cellular phone. Contact: Sgt.
