Edmonson, Superintendent News Release February 12, 2010 9:55 am Sobriety Checkpoint Cancellation/Roadway Updates Currently, all state highways remain open. However, we strongly urge motorists to use extreme caution while traveling on bridges, overpasses, elevated roadways, and rural, less-traveled roads. There remains the possibility of the precipitation freezing on those types of roadways this evening, when temperatures are forecasted to fall below freezing. Because of this potential hazard and in the interest of public safety, Louisiana State Police Troop F has cancelled the previously scheduled sobriety checkpoint set for this evening in Ouachita Parish. Additional manpower has been reallocated to patrol the area highways and assist stranded motorists. Louisiana State Police and Louisiana Department of Transportation will continue to monitor area roadways and take appropriate safety measures when necessary. We remind motorists to wear seatbelts correctly/use appropriate child restraints, adjust their speed, make sure tires are properly inflated, and never travel faster than conditions allow. Do not drive using the cruise control in icy conditions. Do allow ample time to reach your destination, allow extra space between vehicles, and keep vehicle headlights on. Be mindful of the “Move Over” law when first responders and tow trucks are on the shoulder of the roadway with emergency lights activated.
