Pedestrian Seriously Injured in West Carroll Parish Crash

A teen pedestrian is in serious-condition following a crash in West Carroll Parish.

At approximately 9:30 pm last night, a 1997 Ford Explorer, driven by a sixteen year-old female of Oak Grove, was traveling north on LA Hwy 589, milepost 8.5, when she observed a vehicle in the northbound ditch. She stated she also observed another vehicle on the southbound shoulder, facing south. The driver then slowed down and steered toward the centerline. The driver stated she attempted to stop when she saw someone standing in the northbound lane, but was unable to avoid impact with the pedestrian. The pedestrian, seventeen year-old Chelsea McCullough of Pioneer, was transported to LSU-Shreveport Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Explorer was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured nor cited in this crash.

While impairment is not suspected by neither the driver nor the pedestrian, routine toxicology tests are pending.
