News Release November 24, 2009 Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Tips
The Thanksgiving holiday is upon us and more people will be taking to the roads to visit family and friends. As traffic on our roadways increase, so do your chances of being involved in a crash. There will be additional troopers on the roadways this holiday season ensuring the safety of motorists. Troop F Troopers will be patrolling the roadways to ensure that everyone is driving with due care and offering assistance to motorists in need. Troopers will focus much of their attention on aggressive drivers, speeders, impaired drivers, and those who do not wear their seat belts or properly restrain children. The seat belt law in Louisiana states that all occupants must be properly restrained regardless of seating position.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be tolerated and those offenders will be arrested.
Troopers would also like to remind motorists of the importance of making the long weekend a safe one by being prepared for your trip. Prepare for travel by being well-rested and leave early so you do not feel the need to rush to your destination. If you are planning a long trip, make arrangements for frequent stops or breaks. Also, ensure that your vehicle is in good working order. Check your tire pressures, engine fluids, brakes, and other equipment.
If you are in need of assistance or see any unsafe acts, sleepy or impaired drivers, or aggressive driving, you are encouraged to report it by dialing *LSP (577) from your mobile phone.
The Louisiana State Police would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.
