LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE

News Release August 29, 2009 Serious Injury Crash in Union Parish
A West Monroe woman was seriously injured in an early morning crash.
The crash occurred this morning at about 5:45 am on LA 15 (milepost 157.9) in Union Parish. A 2005 Cadillac Deville was traveling north on LA 15 when, for unknown reasons, the driver crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 1984 Peterbuilt dump truck. After the impact, the Cadillac came to rest on the northbound shoulder of LA 15 and the dump truck went off the right side of the road and overturned. The dump truck was hauling pea gravel at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Cadillac, identified as 72-year-old Helen Whitlock from West Monroe, was airlifted to the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the dump truck, identified as 60-year-old Kenneth Fairchild from Camden, AR, was taken to an area hospital by private transport where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. No citations have been issued and the crash remains under investigation.
