Nineteen-Year-Old Driver Dies in Lincoln Parish Crash

A nineteen-year-old driver died in a three vehicle Lincoln Parish Crash.

The crash occurred on September 30, 2009 at about 5:25 pm. A 2004 Ford Mustang was traveling north on LA 33 (milepost 6) when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed the centerline into the path of a tractor-trailer. The two vehicles hit head-on and the tractor-trailer caught on fire. A third vehicle, a 2005 Toyota truck, was traveling behind the Mustang when the driver took evasive action to avoid the crash and struck a telephone box off the roadway.

The driver of the Mustang, identified as 19-year-old Francisco Javier Hernandez from Dubach, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner's Office.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 47-year-old Joseph Battaglia from Shreveport, was taken to the North Louisiana Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, 24-year-old Haley Snipe from Ruston, was not injured in the crash.

Battaglia and Snipe were wearing their seat belts. It is unknown if Hernandez was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor, but routine toxicology tests are pending.

In 2009, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-two (32) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-six (36) deaths.
