Shortly after 9:30 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on I-20 at the Richland/Ouachita Parish line. The initial investigation revealed 26-year-old Michael Salter of Castleberry, AL was driving a 2020 Volvo 18-wheeler west on I-20. Salter did not realize traffic in the westbound lanes of travel was stopped due to a previous crash and struck the rear of a 2011 Freightliner 18-wheeler that was stopped. A passenger in the sleeper compartment of the Volvo 18-wheeler, whose name is being withheld pending notification, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Salter was taken to a local hospital for injuries and cited for careless operation. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
