TROOP F NEWS RELEASE October 5, 2013
The preliminary investigation revealed that 2007 Nissan pickup, driven by 25-year-old Montieugeoges Ruffin of Oak Grove, was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 554 when it drove off the right side of the road and into a ditch. The Nissan then drove back onto the road before driving off the left side of the road where it struck a tree. Ruffin was not properly restrained. Ruffin suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol use is unknown. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Seat belts are the most effective safety feature ever invented and have helped save thousands of lives. Sadly, one in five Americans fail to regularly wear a seat belt when driving or riding in a motor vehicle. While the exact cause of this crash has not been determined, inattentive and distracted driving are leading causes of crashes in our state. Distracted driving is unsafe, irresponsible and in a split second its consequences can be devastating. More information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov. Troop F has investigated 33 fatal crashes which have resulted in 37 deaths so far this year Contact Information Trooper Albert Paxton Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Section Office: (318) 345-2810 albert.paxton@la.gov | |||
