Downsville Motorcyclist Killed in Two Vehicle Crash

Union Parish – Around 7:30 p.m. yesterday, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on LA 15 a few miles north of the Ouachita Parish line.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Chevrolet pick-up truck, driven by 58-year-old John D. Becker of Eros, Louisiana, was northbound on LA 15. For reasons still under investigation, Becker made a left hand turn in front of a southbound 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by 58-year-old Ronald R. Withers of Downsville, Louisiana.

Withers was transported to Union General where he died from injuries sustained in the crash. He was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash.

Becker’s breath alcohol content was almost twice the legal limit. He was arrested and booked into the Union Parish Detention Center on charges that include vehicular homicide.

A toxicology sample was also taken from Becker and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and not driving while impaired can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2018, Troop F has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 18 deaths.
