TROOP F NEWS RELEASE April 7, 2018 Single-Vehicle Crash in Ouachita Parish Claims Two Lives Ouachita Parish — Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash early this morning on LA 144 in Ouachita Parish. Shortly before 6:00 a.m. this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 144, about 1 mile west of LA 151 in Ouachita Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 GMC pick-up truck was traveling west on LA 144 when it struck a large tree that was partially across the roadway. The driver and passenger were properly restrained but sustained fatal injuries due to the severity of the crash. They were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver was identified as 29-year-old Leeton Caleb Wood of Calhoun, Louisiana. The passenger was identified as 26-year-old Matthew Logan Cathey of Jonesboro, Louisiana. Impairment is not suspected. A routine toxicology sample was taken. This crash remains under investigation. In 2018, Troop F has investigated 11 fatal crashes resulting in 14 deaths.
