Driver Succumbs to Injuries Received on Christmas Day Crash

East Feliciana Parish – Shortly before 4:30 pm on December 25, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle serious injury crash on LA Hwy 964 north of LA Hwy 955 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash ultimately resulted in the death of 47-year-old Darla V. Silvio of Baton Rouge.

The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Silvio was driving a 2009 Dodge Ram pickup truck southbound on LA Hwy 964. For unknown reasons Silvio’s Dodge ran off the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway the Dodge struck a tree.

Despite the fact that she was properly restrained, Silvio sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge for treatment. On December 29th, 2018, Troop A was notified that Silvio succumbed to her injuries. Impairment on the part of Silvio is unknown at this time, but may have been a factor. A toxicology sample was obtained from her and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, the results of which are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
