| TROOP F NEWS RELEASE September 10, 2018 Head-On Fatal Crash Claims Life of Unrestrained Farmerville Man Union Parish – On September 28, 2018, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 15 just north of Farmerville. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2018 Toyota Camry, driven by 61-year-old Anthony Mauro Jr. of Farmerville, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 15. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota traveled into the northbound lane of LA Hwy 15 and struck a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 74-year-old Eddie McKinnie of Farmerville. Mauro, who was not restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’ Office. McKinnie and his passenger, who were both properly restrained, were taken to a local hospital for injuries. Toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. In 2018, Troop F has investigated 28 fatal crashes resulting in 32 deaths. | |||
