TROOP F NEWS RELEASE Head-On Crash Claims Life of a West Monroe Man Luna - On May 17, 2019 shortly before 6:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 557 just north of Line Road. This crash took the life of a West Monroe man. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as a 2004 GMC Safari van, driven by 62-year-old Steaphen Spillmon of West Monroe, was traveling south on LA Hwy 557. For reasons still under investigation, the van crossed the center line into the northbound lane and collided with a 1995 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by 31-year-old Timothy Morris of Columbia. After impact, both vehicles came to rest in the roadway. Spillmon, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Morris, who was also restrained, was airlifted to Shreveport for injuries he sustained during the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. In 2019, Troop F has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 20 deaths. Contact Information: | |||
