Bicyclist Killed in Ouachita Parish Hit and Run Crash

Monroe -- Shortly after midnight, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a fatal crash on US Hwy 165 at Langford Drive. This crash took the life of 41-year-old Stanquan Young of Monroe.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed the crash occurred as Young was riding his bicycle across the northbound lanes of US Hwy 165. An unknown vehicle was traveling north and struck the bicycle causing Young to be ejected. After being ejected from the bicycle, Young was thrown into the median. The vehicle that struck Young left the scene. At the time of the crash, Young was wearing dark-colored clothing and his bicycle was not equipped with lights as required by state law.

Young, was taken to St. Francis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers believe the vehicle is possibly a Mazda with damage to the left front bumper and/or fog light area. Troopers urge anyone with ANY information to contact Louisiana State Police Troop F at (318) 345-0000, or their local law enforcement agency. No piece of information should be considered insignificant. Troopers will follow all leads in an effort to bring this case to closure and get answers for Young’s family and friends.

In 2019, Troop F has investigated 11 fatal crashes resulting in 12 deaths.
