| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE February 27, 2016 Speed Suspected to be a Factor in Single Vehicle Crash that Killed Mississippi Man Clinton, LA – Shortly before 5:00 am on February 27, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash at the intersection of LA 432 and LA 67 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 19 year old Cody Haygood of Liberty, MS. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Haygood was traveling westbound on LA 432 in a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. For unknown reasons, Haygood failed to stop at the intersection. There was an incline in the roadway and Haygood’s vehicle went airborne as it crossed LA 67. Haygood’s vehicle came to a stop after striking a tree on its driver’s side. Haygood was properly restrained but suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown at this time if impairment was a factor in this crash. A toxicology sample was taken from Haygood and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
