Unrestrained Newellton Man Dies in Tensas Parish Crash

Newellton - Shortly before 4:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 605 near Newellton.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by 26-year-old Eric Cooper of Newellton, was traveling south on LA Hwy 605. The vehicle Cooper was driving traveled off the right side of the road and began to rotate. After traveling off the road, the vehicle struck a large tree.

Cooper, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tensas Parish Coroner’s Office. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and being properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2018, Troop F has investigated 31 fatal crashes resulting in 35 deaths.
