Teenager Dies in Franklin Parish Crash

Liddieville -- Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on January 6, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA Hwy 135 in Franklin Parish. The crash took the life of 16-year-old Angel Erwin of Winnsboro.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Erwin was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan southbound on LA Hwy 135. For unknown reasons, the Dodge ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Due to extensive damage to the vehicle, Erwin and a passenger had to be extracted.

The 15-year-old passenger was airlifted from the scene to Rapides Regional Medical Center for serious injuries. Erwin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown at this time, but toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

As we begin a new year, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. Taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2019, Troop F has investigated 1 fatal crash resulting in 1 death.
