Troopers Arrest Kentwood Man for Hit and Run Crash

Livingston Parish – Yesterday Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A placed a Kentwood man under arrest for hit and run driving, narcotics violations and various other charges. 26-year-old Jacob H. Stewart was arrested after he caused a crash on I-12 and fled the scene.

The investigation began shortly before 6:00 pm on November 4, 2018, when Troopers were notified of a two-vehicle crash on I-12 westbound near Satsuma Rd. When Troopers arrived on scene, a driver stated that her vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. She further stated that the driver of the vehicle that struck her handed her his Louisiana ID card, then fled the scene on foot leaving his vehicle on the shoulder of I-12.

Using the ID card left at the scene, Troopers determined the driver of the vehicle was Stewart. A search of the vehicle revealed a syringe filled with a substance Troopers believed to be narcotics. The syringe was submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, and the contents were determined to be Methamphetamines. Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Stewart through the 21st JDC charging him with LRS 14:100 Hit and Run Driving, 32:58 Careless Operation, 32:52 Driver Must be Licensed, 32:861 No Insurance, 32:295.1 No Seatbelt, 40:1023 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and 40:967 Possession of Schedule II (Methamphetamines).

On the morning of January 13th, 2018, Troopers located Stewart at a residence in Baton Rouge. He was placed under arrest on the above listed charges and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison as a fugitive. Stewart was then transported to the Livingston Parish Prison and booked.

Hit and run driving is a crime that Louisiana State Police takes seriously, and Troopers will continue to investigate and arrest drivers responsible for hit and run crashes. If motorists are involved in hit and run crashes, they should gather as much descriptive information as possible and dial 911 to report it to authorities.
