Unrestrained Driver Killed in Franklin Parish Crash

Baskin – Yesterday, shortly before 10:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Hwy 425 just north of Baskin. This crash claimed the life of a Winnsboro man who was not wearing a seat belt.

The initial investigation revealed a 2012 Ford F-150, driven by 63-year-old Lynn Laborde, was traveling northbound in the outside lane of U.S. Hwy 425. For reasons still under investigation, Laborde had stopped in the roadway with no lights on. At the same time, a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 was also traveling north in the outside lane. The driver of the GMC was unable to see the Ford and struck it from behind.

Laborde was pronounced dead. The driver of the GMC was not injured. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself during a vehicle crash. Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences. Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night.

The crash remains under investigation.

In 2021, Troop F has investigated 43 fatal crashes resulting in 52 deaths.
