TROOP F NEWS RELEASE October 1, 2021 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Caldwell Parish Crash Hebert – Earlier today, shortly after 8:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 133 just south of LA Hwy 847. This crash claimed the life of a Columbia woman who was not wearing a seat belt. The initial investigation revealed a 1999 Lincoln Town Car, driven by 59-year-old Sheila McDonald, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 133 around a slight right hand curve. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a large tree. McDonald was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself during a vehicle crash. Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences. Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night. The crash remains under investigation. In 2021, Troop F has investigated 44 fatal crashes resulting in 53 deaths.
