Unrestrained Driver Killed in Morehouse Parish Crash

Bonita – Earlier today, shortly after 9:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 833, just west of US Hwy 165. This crash claimed the life of a Kilbourne woman who was not wearing a seat belt.

The initial investigation revealed a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 87-year-old Johnie Sanders, was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 833. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck a large tree.

Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself during a vehicle crash. Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences. Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night.

The crash remains under investigation.

In 2021, Troop F has investigated 46 fatal crashes resulting in 55 deaths.
