| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE February 2, 2019 Vehicle Sought in Hit & Run Fatal Crash Involving Motorcyclist UPDATE: As a result of the investigation into the hit-and-run crash, Troopers have arrested 30-year-old Emily A. Easley of Baton Rouge. Easley was booked earlier this evening into the Livingston Parish Detention Center and charged with 14:32.1 - Vehicular Homicide, 14:39.1 - Vehicular Negligent Injuring, 14:100 - Felony Hit and Run, 14:99 - Reckless Operation, 32:123 - Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, 32:398 - Failure to Report a Crash, and 47:508C - Expired Vehicle Registration. Troopers also took the vehicle, a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for forensic analysis. Denham Springs – Shortly after 1:00 am on February 2, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a hit and run fatality crash involving a motorcycle on LA Hwy 16 (Vincent Rd.) south of Pete’s Hwy in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 25-year-old Austin Huber of Greensburg. Troopers are asking for assistance in locating the hit and run vehicle and driver. The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Huber and his passenger, 29-year-old Brandi Hughes of Walker, were traveling southbound on LA Hwy 16 on a 2003 Honda Shadow 750 motorcycle. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the suspect vehicle (possibly a grey SUV) made a left turn from James Street across the southbound lanes of travel into the path of Huber’s motorcycle. Huber’s motorcycle struck the suspect vehicle, and he and Hughes were ejected. Despite the fact that he was wearing a DOT approved helmet, Huber suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected by Huber, but a toxicology sample was taken from him for analysis. Hughes was also wearing a DOT approved helmet, but sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for treatment. This crash remains under investigation, and Troopers ask that anyone with any information regarding this crash please contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500. This is the third fatal crash involving motorcyclists in the Troop A area in less than 24 hours. Unfortunately, a common cause of motorcycle crashes is the failure of vehicle drivers to detect motorcycles in traffic. Troopers wish to remind motorists to always be aware of their surroundings and look out for motorcycles. Motorists should never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws.
