TROOP A NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver Killed in West Baton Rouge Parish Crash Addis – Shortly before 6:30 pm on November 16, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on LA Hwy 1 south of Addis in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 33-year-old Delandro L. Henderson of Zachary. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Henderson was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on LA Hwy 1. At the same time, 42-year-old Aradundell Parker of Baton Rouge was driving northbound on LA Hwy 1 in a 2002 International truck/trailer. Parker brought his International to a stop in the right lane for a railroad crossing. As Henderson approached the stopped International from the rear, he attempted to change from the right lane to the left but was unable to do so. As a result, the Chevrolet struck the rear of the trailer. Henderson was unrestrained and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment on his part is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was obtained from him to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Parker was properly restrained and was uninjured, and impairment on his part was not factor. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
