Two Dead in Single Vehicle Crash on I-12 in Livingston Parish

Holden – Shortly before 4:00 pm on October 12, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in two deaths on Interstate 12 westbound at milepost 26 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of Saul and Maria Cerna of Texas.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 27–year-old Jesenia Cerna of Biloxi, MS was driving a 2001 Ford E150 van westbound on I-12. For reasons still under investigation, Jesenia Cerna ran off the roadway to the right and struck a tree.

Saul and Maria Cerna were unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. They were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Jesenia Cerna for analysis.
