This crash claimed the life of a Bastrop man who was not wearing his seat belt. The initial investigation revealed a 2019 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 75-year-old Larry Walker, was crossing LA Hwy 139 from a private driveway. A 2005 Ford Explorer, driven by 32-year-old Amber Smith of Hamburg, AR, was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 139 when it struck the Jeep. After impact, Walker was ejected from the vehicle. Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself during a vehicle crash. Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences. Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night.
The crash remains under investigation.
