TROOP F NEWS RELEASE January 30, 2018 Unrestrained Driver Dies in Morehouse Parish Crash Bastrop – An unrestrained woman lost her life this morning after the vehicle she was driving traveled off the road and struck a culvert. Shortly before 11:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Cooper Lake Road, north of LA Hwy 830-4. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Kia Optima, driven by 36-year-old Robin Munholland of Bastrop, was traveling north on Cooper Lake Road when the vehicle she was driving traveled off the left side of the road and struck a culvert. Munholland, who was not restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. In 2018, Troop F has investigated 5 fatal crashes resulting in 6 deaths.
