TROOP F NEWS RELEASE December 17, 2014 Head-On Crash Kills Passenger in West Carroll Parish West Carroll Parish- On December 16, 2014 shortly after 7:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 2, just west of Oak Grove that claimed the life of a North Carolina woman. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Ford F150, driven by 43-year-old James Bell of Oak Grove, was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 2 when the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and struck a 2011 Nissan driven by a 22-year-old Gabriel Snyder of North Carolina. Lydia Snyder, a passenger in the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gabriel Snyder was transported to a local hospital for serious injuries. There was also a 5-year-old passenger in the Ford F150, who was restrained in a booster seat, that was transported to a local hospital for serious injuries. Both the driver and passenger of the Nissan were properly restrained at the time of the crash. James Bell was impaired at the time of the crash and arrested. He was charged with Vehicular Homicide, two counts of Negligent Injury and driving left of center. He was booked into the West Carroll Jail. Impaired driving and distracted driving are leading causes of crashes in our state. Combing the two significantly increases the likelihood of a crash. While impaired driving is never acceptable behavior, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs with children in the vehicle carries enhanced penalties under Louisiana state law.
