TROOP F NEWS RELEASE December 17, 2014 Construction Worker Killed in Caldwell Parish Crash On December 16, 2014, at 4:06 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F in Monroe responded to a serious injury crash just north of Columbia, LA on US Hwy 165. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2014 Chevrolet pickup (construction vehicle), equipped with a large arrow board was stopped in the north bound outside lane. The Chevrolet was stopped due to work being done in the roadway by three workers. A Cadillac ATS, driven by 42-year-old Jan Williams of Columbia, LA was traveling north on US 165 in the outside travel lane when she attempted to move into the inside lane but struck the rear of Chevrolet pickup and all three construction workers. Two of the construction workers were transported to a local hospital for moderate injuries and one was airlifted due to severe injuries. At 9:10 p.m., Troop F was contacted by the hospital, which stated 30-year-old Michael Roberts of West Monroe, LA had succumbed to his injuries and died. Impairment at this time is unknown. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Road construction workers, tow truck drivers and First Responders work on our highways as part of their job duties. It is the responsibility of the motoring public to be aware when in a construction zone or approach any slow moving or stopped vehicles.
