TROOP F NEWS RELEASE February 13, 2015 Unrestrained Man Killed in Tensas Parish Crash On February 13, 2015, at 3:14 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 568 at the intersection with Louisiana Highway 862 in Tensas Parish that claimed the life of a man from Waterproof. The preliminary investigation revealed a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by 19-year-old Christopher Short of Waterproof, LA was traveling west on LA 568. For unknown reasons the vehicle traveled off the road, struck a ditch and became airborne. The vehicle then traveled across both lanes of travel, overturned several times and Short was ejected. Short, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tensas Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment at this time is unknown. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves.
