TROOP F NEWS RELEASE August 30, 2014
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Peterbilt tractor trailer, driven by 45-year-old Thorne Thornton of Marion, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 33 when it lost control and drove off the right side of the road. The Peterbilt then struck an embankment and several trees before overturning. Thornton was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the Peterbilt. Thornton suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Troop F has investigated 24 fatal crashes which have resulted in 24 deaths so far this year.
