TROOP F NEWS RELEASE September 25, 2014 Head On Crash Kills Driver in Richland Parish Richland Parish- Shortly after 8:40 a.m. this morning, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle crash on LA 134 at Percy Higgins Rd. The crash claimed the life of a Rayville woman. The preliminary investigation revealed a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by 63-year-old Shirley Nobles of Rayville, was traveling south on Percy Higgins Road when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of LA 134. After failing to stop at the intersection, Nobles made a wide right turn into the opposing lane of travel on LA 134 into the path of a 1999 Freightliner 18-wheeler, driven by Cory Mayhall of Rayville, LA. Mayhall took evasive action but was unable to avoid a head-on collision. Nobles was transported by air ambulance to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria where she was later pronounced dead. Mayhall was transported to area hospital for moderate injuries. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Contact Information: | |||
