TROOP F NEWS RELEASE September 28, 2014 Three Vehicle Fatal Crash in Ouachita Parish On September 28, 2014, at 1:24 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a three vehicle crash on LA 139 at Stubbs Vinson Rd that claimed the life of a Monroe man. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Toyota Prius, driven by 59 year old Mark Dent of Monroe, was traveling southbound on LA 139. A 2011 Dodge Charger, driven by Marcus Yanez of Bastrop, was also traveling southbound on LA 139 in front of Dent. Yanez had stopped due to another vehicle in front of him making a left turn onto Stubbs Vinson. Dent failed to notice the Dodge Charger was stopped and struck it in the rear. After impact, Dent’s vehicle traveled into the northbound lane of LA 139 into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet Pickup, driven by Gary Kidd of Monroe. The Chevrolet Pickup struck the Toyota Prius in the driver side. Dent suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment on the parts of Yanez and Kidd is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Impairment on the part of Dent is unknown. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in the vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptation of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road and always obey the speed limit.
