Unrestrained Driver Killed in Madison Parish Crash

Madison Parish- Around 12:45 p.m. this afternoon, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a one vehicle crash on LA 557 approximately 4/10 of a mile north on LA 579. This crash claimed the life of a Delhi woman.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 45-year-old Karen Soares of Delhi, was traveling south bound on LA Hwy 577 when the vehicle she was driving veered into the left lane. Soares then attempted to regain control of the vehicle and crossed over both lanes of travel. The vehicle began to rollover and came to rest in a field.

Soares was not wearing her seatbelt and was completely ejected during the rollover. Soares was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash.
