Unrestrained Livingston Parish Man Killed in Crash

Holden – Shortly before 10:30 pm on September 28, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on LA Hwy 42 west of LA Hwy 43 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 53-year-old Jeffrey P. Rushing of Holden.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Rushing was driving a 2011 Ford F-150 westbound on LA Hwy 42. As Rushing entered a left hand curve his vehicle ran off the road to the right. The vehicle then crossed the centerline and ran off the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle entered into a ditch and rolled several times.

Rushing was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported from the scene to North Oaks Health System in Hammond, where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. Impairment is undetermined at this time, but may be a factor in this crash. A toxicology sample was taken from Rushing to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
