TROOP F NEWS RELEASE May 11, 2015 Unrestrained West Monroe Woman Killed in Early Morning Crash Ouachita Parish –A West Monroe woman died this morning after the vehicle she was driving traveled into the path of another vehicle. Shortly after 7:30 a.m. on May 11, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 3033 just north of Louisiana Highway 34. The initial investigation by State Police revealed a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 28-year-old Erma Hines of West Monroe, was traveling south on LA 3033. For unknown reasons, the Trailblazer traveled across the center line and into the path of a northbound 2011 Ford F-350, driven by 33-year-old William Evans of West Monroe. The F-350 Evans was driving struck the Trailblazer on the passenger side door. Hines was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital where she later died. Evans, who was properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 19 deaths.
