TROOP F NEWS RELEASE July 21, 2015 Unrestrained Woman Killed in Early Morning Crash Tallulah, LA – A woman from Tallulah died this morning after losing control of her vehicle in Madison Parish. Shortly after 5:40 a.m., on July 21, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 602 approximately 3 miles south of the town of Tallulah. This crash took the life of 54-year-old Gail Whatley of Tallulah, LA. The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed Whatley was driving a 2002 GMC Envoy west on LA 602. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and the driver overcorrected. The vehicle then traveled across both lanes and began to rollover. Due to the driver not being restrained, she was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner’s Office. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 24 fatal crashes resulting in 26 deaths.
