TROOP F NEWS RELEASE July 22, 2015 Unrestrained Man Killed in Afternoon Crash Delhi, LA – A man from Delhi died this afternoon after losing control of his vehicle in Richland Parish. Shortly before 3:00 p.m., on July 22, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Cook road approximately 2 miles south of the town of Delhi. This crash took the life of 96-year-old James Coleman of Delhi, LA. The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed Coleman was driving a 1996 Toyota Tacoma west on Cook road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway, struck a ditch embankment and began to overturn. Coleman, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 25 fatal crashes resulting in 27 deaths.
