Unrestrained Man Killed in Early Morning Crash

Marion, LA – A man from Monroe died this morning after losing control of his vehicle in Union Parish.

Shortly after 2:20 a.m., on July 26, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of Crow Farm road and Glaze Creek road in Union Parish. This crash took the life of 19-year-old Jacob LaDart of Monroe, LA.

The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed LaDart was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup west on Crow Farm road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and the driver overcorrected. The vehicle then traveled across both lanes and into a wooded area where it struck several trees. Due to the driver not being restrained, he was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is suspected and toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. This crash is still under investigation.

Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt.

Louisiana State Police urge motorists to have a plan in place that includes a designated driver when consuming alcohol. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, and impair fine motor skills. Alcohol can begin to impair a person's ability to safely operate a motor vehicle after just one drink.

In 2015, Troop F has investigated 26 fatal crashes resulting in 28 deaths.
