TROOP F NEWS RELEASE May 11, 2015 Unrestrained Monroe Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Ouachita Parish –A Monroe man died overnight after losing control of the vehicle he was driving. Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on May 10, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 841 approximately 5 miles north of US Highway 165. The initial investigation by State Police revealed a 2001 GMC Yukon was traveling north on LA 841 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a ditch. The vehicle overturned and the driver, 52-year-old Richard Hall of Monroe, was ejected. Hall was not wearing a seatbelt and pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Wearing a seat belt greatly reduces the chances of receiving serious injuries in a crash as well. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle to always remain buckled up, regardless of seating position. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 17 fatal crashes resulting in 18 deaths.
