TROOP F NEWS RELEASE April 4, 2015 Unrestrained Rayville Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Richland Parish – An overnight crash claimed the life of a man from Rayville. Shortly before 2:40 a.m. on April 4, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 133 approximately 2 miles south of the community of Start, LA. This crash took the life of 27-year-old Jeremy Wood of Rayville, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed Wood was driving a 2006 Lincoln LS south on LA 133. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a concrete culvert. After striking the culvert, the vehicle became airborne and overturned. Wood, who was unrestrained, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 13 fatal crashes resulting in 13 deaths. | |||
