TROOP F NEWS RELEASE April 21, 2015 Bicyclist Killed in Early-Morning Crash in Ouachita Parish Ouachita Parish – An overnight crash claimed the life of a bicyclist on US Highway 165 near Monroe. Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on April 21, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a fatal crash involving a bicycle and a car that occurred on US Highway 165 just south of the city limits of Monroe, LA. This crash took the life of 36-year-old Mashaylin Green of Monroe, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by 22-year-old Tommy Coleman was traveling south on US Hwy 165 when Green attempted to cross US 165 on a bicycle. Green, who was wearing dark colored clothes, was struck and thrown from the bicycle. Green was pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Coleman was cited for speeding, not having a driver’s license and no license plate on the vehicle. When riding a bicycle, regardless of the time of day, you need to be seen by others. While riding at night always wear something that reflects light such as reflective tape or markings. Louisiana law requires front and rear lights on bicycles when riding at night. Remember, just because you can see a driver doesn’t mean the driver can see you. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 14 fatal crashes resulting in 14 deaths.
