TROOP F NEWS RELEASE May 2, 2015 Unrestrained Rayville Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Richland Parish – A Rayville man lost his life today after the vehicle he was driving ran off the road, struck a culvert and overturned. Shortly after 8:15 p.m. on May 2, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana Hwy 609 approximately 1 mile south of Interstate 20. The initial investigation by State Police revealed a 2004 Buick Century was traveling north on LA 609. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road, struck a concrete culvert and overturned. The driver, 77-year-old Collie Hutto of Rayville, was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. Hutto was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. In 2015, Troop F has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 15 deaths. | |||
