Former Chief Financial Officer for Catahoula Sheriff’s Office Arrested |
REGION 3 NEWS RELEASE August 13, 2014
Former Chief Financial Officer for Catahoula Sheriff’s Office Arrested
On August 13, 2014, investigators with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations arrested the former chief financial officer for the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office for theft and malfeasance in office.
In May of 2014, investigators were requested by Catahoula Parish Sheriff James Kelly to investigate the possibility that a former chief financial officer, 61-year-old George Tosspon of Jonesville, stole public funds by giving himself unauthorized pay increases before his retirement. The Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office performed an audit in May of 2014 that revealed Tosspon received $22,534 in excess wages from August of 2009 to November of 2013. Investigators discovered that Tosspon gave himself two unauthorized pay increases and issued himself a payroll check for overtime that he did not work. Tosspon surrendered to investigators at the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office today and was arrested. His bond was set at $25,000.
Tosspon faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
