Pedestrian Struck and Killed in East Baton Rouge Parish

Baton Rouge Shortly after 7:00 pm on October 10, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 10 westbound west of LA 42 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 44-year-old Michael Lemay of Denham Springs.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 78-year-old Francis Barlow of Baton Rouge was traveling in the right lane of I-10 westbound in a 2016 Honda CRV. Lemay was on the shoulder of I-10 westbound. For reasons still under investigation, Lemay walked directly into the path of Barlow’s vehicle and was struck in the right lane of I-10 westbound.

Lemay sustained serious injuries a result of the crash and was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Barlow was properly restrained and was not injured. He submitted to a chemical test and showed no signs of impairment. A toxicology sample was taken from Lemay and results are pending.
