TROOP F NEWS RELEASE January 24, 2014
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Bastrop Police Department was attempting to stop a 1990 Buick Century, driven by 28-year-old Antonio Washington of Collinston, for a traffic violation. The Buick did not stop and continued south on Louisiana Highway 593 at a high rate of speed. The Buick lost control in a curve and drove off the right side of the road where it struck a culvert. The Buick then became airborne and overturned several times. Washington was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected. Washington suffered serious injuries and was transported to Morehouse General Hospital where he died. Impairment is unknown. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves from injury in the event of a crash. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants in all seating positions to be properly restrained, day and night. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time. Troop F has investigated 1 fatal crash which has resulted in 1 death so far this year.
