Alcohol Use Suspected In Ouachita Parish Fatal Crash |
TROOP F NEWS RELEASE January 28, 2014
Alcohol Use Suspected In Ouachita Parish Fatal Crash On January 27, 2014, at 11:53 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 80 a few miles west of West Monroe.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2002 Toyota Camry, driven by 28-year-old Dennis Lannan of Calhoun, was traveling west on U.S. Highway 80 when it lost control and drove off the left side of the road. The Toyota rotated clockwise and struck a tree.
Lannan was not wearing his seat belt and suffered serious injuries. Lannan was transported to Glenwood Regional Medical Center where he died.
Impairment is suspected. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects.
Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves from injury in the event of a crash. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants in all seating positions to be properly restrained, day and night. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
Troop F has investigated 2 fatal crashes which have resulted in 2 deaths so far this year.
