Lake Providence Police Officer Arrested |
REGION 3 NEWS RELEASE March 5, 2014
Lake Providence Police Officer Arrested
On March 3, 2014, investigators with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations arrested a Lake Providence police officer for one count of malfeasance in office.
Investigators learned Lee Antwine, a 52-year-old police officer with the Lake Providence Police Department, had falsified a police report involving a crash that occurred on February 16, 2014 in Lake Providence. Antwine reported that a 2005 Ford truck had been involved in a crash with a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. Investigators interviewed witnesses that indicated a car had actually struck the Avalanche. Investigators located a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix that witnesses described as being involved in the crash. Physical evidence at the scene matched damages to the Grand Prix.
Antwine confessed during questioning that he falsified the report. Antwine stated the driver of the Grand Prix was not the owner. He owned the Ford truck and he requested to use the insurance policy on the Ford. Antwine stated he wanted to help the Ford owner, so he intentionally reported false information in his police report.
Antwine surrendered to investigators at the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office on March 3, 2014, where he was arrested. His bond was set at $5,000.
Antwine faces up to a $5,000 fine and 5 years in prison if convicted.
