TROOP F NEWS RELEASE December 30, 2013 Unrestrained Driver Seriously Injured In Morehouse Parish On December 29, 2013, at 5:55 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 554 west of Louisiana Highway 139. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 28-year-old Rachael Demoss of Monroe, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 554 when she lost control in a curve and traveled off the left side of the road. The Sonata struck a culvert and flipped over several times. Demoss was not wearing her seat belt and suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. Demoss was transported to a hospital in Alexandria. Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of needless deaths and injuries on Louisiana highways. Motorists are asked to designate a sober driver before traveling to any place where alcohol will be consumed. To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency. Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time. | |||
